Sammy Business Group Hosts Extracurricular Off-Site Bourbon Tasting

For extra credit, the Sammy Tri-State Business Group added an off-site bourbon tasting dinner to our syllabus. Not one to drink alone, bourbon collector and connoisseur Russell Wohl invited the group to his home for dinner and a spiritual tour of Kentucky spirits.

The usual business discussions took a back seat to bourbon banter: Fra Wohl expounded upon all the finer points of manufacture, production, packaging, procurement, pricing and trivia.

Teetotalers and non-believers were treated to tequila and soft drinks.

A gourmet charcuterie board was curated, cut, and plated by Fra Jake Krassner. It was sourced from the Park Slope Food Coop where Jake is a member of the cheese squad.

A catered buffet dinner of wings, sliders, and calamari was served. After which, we again retreated to the backyard living room to watch the NBA Conference Finals over more libations.

The dinner was capped off with a babka taste test and dessert bourbon. Chocolate > Cinnamon. Philly fluff pound cake got high marks and honorable mentions. We started around 5:30pm and departed before the 11pm news.

In all, nine brothers from nine different chapters were in attendance. All the decades, ages twenties through seventies, were represented. Chapter and age diversity has long been a hallmark of the group, which often helps bring a diversity of opinions to our business discussions.

The group meets formally for dinner on the last Tuesday of every other month, in addition to ad hoc meetups, one-on-ones, and curated extracurricular themed off-sites like this one.
